Wk 6- Art Can Be Shocking!

Is there really a separation of church and state?

Why can you burn a cross and not the US flag?

Why do people walk past you when holding a sign that says burn in hell when they would get physical or verbally abusive if you said their political party is deranged.

Why is burning a bible an expression of opinion where if you burned the US flag it is a crime?

Is there really a separation of church and state?

Or are they the same with different labels and power levels.

I chose this idea after the in class argument over the topic of the US flag being a representation of strong emotions. It triggered many people into talking so I thought I would write this to open the eyes of many people who weren’t expressing themselves. I hoped to communicate this idea of how this country thinks it is the most important thing on Earth. In a way it is the popular kid in the school that everyone wants to talk to but the kid is full of himself and acts that way. Hopefully if this gains attention I think it will be very successful due to the accuracy of these statements. If I had to do this again I would expand on all the details but keep the repetitiveness in this piece of writing to simulate a pattern of order. Another idea I would explore is how blind people are to the horrors of our nations history. I would go in depth as to how instead of feeling pride in representing the red, white, and blue we should feel ashamed that we are not addressing and learning from the past.
