Wk 13- Sustainable Art

My idea was to create a reflection from this food display to people and their differences. By demonstrating that one slice of pizza has pepperonis and the other doesn’t each one can be used differently. The one on the left would be at a disadvantage towards someone who doesn’t like any toppings on their pizza but in the case that the person likes the topping then that piece would get chosen. This demonstration is a clear display of certain advantages that people have that apply to situations that would benefit them. In the case that it doesn’t benefit you it doesn’t make it a disadvantage it only means its useful in a different area. Obviously the materials were basically my food. It was 2 slices of pizza which was the bulk of this piece and a paper plate to hold it together. If the person viewing this can see past just the concept of pizza on a plate then maybe they can see it in a bigger picture and find the actual purpose. My choice of materials made my artwork more appealing to look at since many people enjoy food this is definitely an eye grabber for those people.

In terms of kissing, they should only last like 1-2 seconds unless its something special like a marriage kiss. For the most part it depends on the scenario some last more than others and its because of the heat of the moment. Great meals should be enjoyed they shouldn’t be rushed. So I can’t give an estimate for how long these meals should last because people eat at different speeds. An art piece in my opinion should last forever so more people can experience it and enjoy it. However with few exceptions some art pieces should only last the moment of creation and shortly after to make it more valuable for the ones who get to experience it. For the case of marriages ideally they are supposed to last forever as a signal of impenetrable love. Human life on the other hand is not a permanent experience. Our life span is limited and in my opinion a good lifetime should be around 85 years.

The fact that ephemeral artwork and human lives are not permanent make it so we cherish those things more than others. With these things we have the mentality to get the most out of these experiences. The goal should be to make things like quality air, clean water, and sustainable land into long lasting resources for the future generations of humans. Realistically speaking, I won’t be the one to make the difference. There are people that have that drive to make the world a better place.

Wk 12- Virtual Art Gallery

The theme for this art gallery shown is expression. In different ways artists are able to share their creativity and thoughts through their own art. Each picture above represents a different type of expression. The first photo was taken by me in a game called Krunker.io where I saw a person who dressed their character in very vibrant cosmetics. You can also tell that this person cares about style and the way they are seen by others in the community. The artist by the name of Magicpants090 is also seen posing for the photo with a lovely background. His expression of color is strong with the mixture of dark and bright colors. The second photo is a creation from the builders of the server mineplex. This group of artists sculpted an area that depicts their imagination. Their creation gives off a very natural look while being suspended in an island in the sky. With their own taste of artistry they can create something unique for everyone to enjoy while on the server. As for the the third photo we see a type of collage. Mostly things are scattered and organized in a wild fashion. This is her way of seeing her art being expressed in such an open manner. With her art being fully expressed out there she can indulge in many different parts of herself in many areas at once. This is truly a unique style of the artist Molly Soda.

Wk11- Vlogging

For this video, my ultimate goal was to express my thoughts on how change can be unexpected and that we have to roll with the punches. If you have watched my video and understood my thought process then I can say with confidence that yes my goal was completed because my thoughts were heard. If I were to do another sit down vlog I would try and loosen up and get more relaxed. It was very difficult to do that this time knowing that the vlog was going to be graded. Although I have been asked by my community on twitch to vlog, I think for now I will not pursue that path. As of now the content that I most enjoy watching from a youtuber would be Logan Paul. I admire his energy and his consistency to put out content. From his videos I know what areas interest me the most like his comfort in front of a camera and the editing style in the videos. For me, authenticity is who you are off the camera. It is who you are in real life against who people think you are based off the character you play online. Performance is like an act. A vlogger is a comfortable actor where they express themselves online. I believe many vloggers are not the same person when they are not shown on YouTube. If a person expresses performance but lacks authenticity they would be considered fake. Authenticity and performance are not opposites they can both be traits of one person. A person who is legitimate and nice online can also be legitimate and nice offline. It’s just about being a good person. After watching both videos of Jennifer Aniston I would have to say that the interview when Jennifer is at her home is more authentic. Mainly because there was no promotion involved that would benefit her career unlike the interview at the studio. The studio session was definitely more performative because of the rehearsals that would take place and how they followed an order of their conversation by the writers of the show. The interaction was not very natural as the one where they broadcasted from home.

WK8-art experiences-writing a Romantic pop song

Yeah, I think you’re pretty cool. But I’d be a fool to think that you’re not better, cause your beauty makes my heart tickle like a feather. You are what I describe as perfect sunny weather.

In my song I was trying to think about how I could see a girl outside the form of a body. More as a feeling and a sight. My process was to write it in the form of poetry then to tweak it so it flowed better when spoken. The creation of the song was neither easy or hard. I feel that it was more of an obstacle that had no level of difficulty because of the nature of the creativity. Before doing it I thought this was going to be very difficult because I’m not a songwriter. But I came to realize its all in the mind. In my opinion the song can be lengthened to fit more of a tune but its essence servers its purpose. My songwriting career is over, I do not see myself writing any more songs in the future. But if I had to write another one it would be around the topic of nature and the life within.

Wk 6- Art Can Be Shocking!

Is there really a separation of church and state?

Why can you burn a cross and not the US flag?

Why do people walk past you when holding a sign that says burn in hell when they would get physical or verbally abusive if you said their political party is deranged.

Why is burning a bible an expression of opinion where if you burned the US flag it is a crime?

Is there really a separation of church and state?

Or are they the same with different labels and power levels.

I chose this idea after the in class argument over the topic of the US flag being a representation of strong emotions. It triggered many people into talking so I thought I would write this to open the eyes of many people who weren’t expressing themselves. I hoped to communicate this idea of how this country thinks it is the most important thing on Earth. In a way it is the popular kid in the school that everyone wants to talk to but the kid is full of himself and acts that way. Hopefully if this gains attention I think it will be very successful due to the accuracy of these statements. If I had to do this again I would expand on all the details but keep the repetitiveness in this piece of writing to simulate a pattern of order. Another idea I would explore is how blind people are to the horrors of our nations history. I would go in depth as to how instead of feeling pride in representing the red, white, and blue we should feel ashamed that we are not addressing and learning from the past.

Wk 3- Art Experience- You can Find Art everywhere!

Our art piece consisted of a message where nature finds a way to fight through the conditions given. Somehow nature will find a way. Another great piece to notice is the great contrast of color with the lively green from the plant and the stone from the stairs all around it just shows the great difference between what’s natural and what is not. Before putting the rectangle around the piece I think it is not art because most people don’t think in a way where we see a weed growing and consider life lessons. The rectangle forces you to take that second look and actually see something. Removing the rectangle would take away the opportunity for it to get noticed and cared for. Objects can become art if they have a purpose or an effect on the person viewing it. Which means that it opens anything to art based on its interpretations. Art is music its a lifestyle, it doesn’t have to be a physical object like a sculpture. Art is definitely reliant on the experience of the viewer mainly because of the fact that if nobody took something away from the piece there was no purpose in creating it. I went to the art gallery on Thursday and witnessed many interesting pieces and they gave me internal reactions and mixed feelings which is meaningful to the creator and it accomplishes the purpose of creating it.

Wk 1- Art Experience – “Women’s Work is Also Art

My initial thoughts were all surrounding the concept of a waste of time. Until the moment where I looked around and saw everyone contributing to something useful as a group. I saw the concept of strength in numbers through my own eyes. Mierle Laderman Ukeles and Richard Serra have different ways of portraying their style. I do believe they both express their forms of art differently. Ukeles cleaning the steps is more inviting and warming but Serra is more violent and dark with their method of creating art. I believe its like music where different people have opposing tastes in music which is okay. They’re also similar because they both convey messages to certain topics. They are definitely both considered art in my eyes because of the meanings behind their creations. Her performance being at an art museum takes away the proper message she conveyed of respect towards other creations. I believe it takes away the purpose of the original piece in a public space. If she was a janitor and was forced to clean the steps it would take away the importance of her actions by being a regular person showing care. An object is not art without the meaning behind the creator. Art is about the influence of the creator and purpose of showing it to others. A painting on a canvas is not always art due to the mentality of the creator and painting a house could be art to those who understand why you painted it. If there is a story to tell behind the house or the quality of the house and the time it took to create it makes it art. “Women’s Work” is art because of how appreciated it is and how important it was in our history. As of right now I would get down to my hands and knees cleaning Kobe Bryant’s star out of respect for the impact he’s had on everybody.

Wk 2 – Art Experience – Abstraction is Freedom

At first I was not excited towards the materials and the idea that I would be finger painting in a college class. But once I began mixing colors and feeling the paint on my hands I began to look at art in a whole new light. I began experimenting with different parts of the hand like the nail to get thin trenches that stood out in a three dimensional way or with the use of my fingertips applying pressure to bring out the paint underneath the surface coat which stood out more like in the picture above. This activity was much more difficult than I had expected because during my creation, I had to think about which colors would further add to the overall picture. This assignment was very inspiring due to the simple fact that a painting with just your hands can really look like a creation of beauty and imagination. Most other paintings I’ve seen are portraits of people which don’t express the field of creativity and imagination. I spent a lot of time adding more paint to create an even ground and would design things using my fingers.
